Musings about Everything Old

Antiques Are Green!

Being an antiques fan and loving the idea of reusing old stuff has always favoured with me over anything flat pack, short lasting, too popular and has terrible construction instructions and having 99.9% chance of having something broken or missing the minute you fight to get the horrendous packaging off. I will not name but certain furniture and homeware stores have a short-sighted outlook on eco-living for the masses out there.

They do damage to the environment instantly and will do for the unforeseeable future if there is demand, which is why I want to give you, the consumer other options on value, quality, durability, longevity and style, functionality and being eco-friendly.

Reading the article below on the ArtDependence digital magazine just fills me with joy and hope that there is finally going to be a bridge and opening to more people looking at older furniture and older functional items that can inspire and save the planet and money in their pockets in the long term.

The awareness is definitely growing, and so will the movement and I hope that the antiques world will be open to everyone and be more welcoming to the newcomers and potential buyers that may not be 'antique savvy' but would benefit from purchasing old stuff rather than new and become a conscious and proud purchaser of antiques, therefore developing a natural appreciation of historical and well manufactured goods of the past.

What would be cooler and more satisfying than being a younger customer of old stuff, which has been around for years, decades, and millennia, which has helped so many people by need, or wanted function in its past and also given pleasure visually that has been a worthwhile investment. Then to end up being reused at a fair price, which will potentially last another lifetime I mean how romantic, and inspiring is that? So, it is a win-win for the dealers, customers, and most of all the environment.

I am happy to introduce Antiques are Green website and organisation that is helping to raise awareness throughout the antiques industry and beyond, as well as being a movement of the past, we can most move greener into the future.
