Are you donating your old stuff to charity or to the bin….
Did you know that even charity shops have seasons and fashions and will and do throw away items that people donate, I did not know that until I went into a charity shop in Ringwood this summer and had an eye-opening conversation with a charity shop manager.
I completely understand that not all items of clothing and objects are reusable or saleable in charity shops and they should not be used as an alternative to binning items, but to learn that so much is thrown away due to keeping up with trends, colours and seasons is to me not a good thing at all.
This seems to be happening because the entire fashion industry is forever changing, at such a fast and cheap pace, that individuals who think they are doing a good thing by donating their unwanted items of clothing, furniture, or household items, are in-fact, creating an immense amount waste, indirectly and unconsciously.
We are living in a world that is so fast paced, a pair of shoes that are fashionable today, is out by the time you wake up tomorrow and we do tend to have self-fulling ideas and desires these days about the things we own or are seen to own.
Everything from clothes, to phones, to furniture and right down to ceramics, porcelain and plastics have overtaken our lives in an adverse way and wider still to the world and one way or another we will and are going to pay for the immense damage we are causing to our beautiful and incredibly old planet we call home.
What are your thoughts on recycling and charity shops? Have you got any stories of your own experiences within the charity shop world? I would love to hear your thoughts good and bad but not abusive or rude.
Please see below links to information that I found that may give your insight to the huge charity industry. Feel free to do more research and share your findings with us.

Facts on clothes recycling | Clothes Aid
For me I have always loved to pass on clothes and household items that can be of benefit directly to a person or family that need it. Not only does it help those in real need, but it also makes me feel good knowing I have not thrown it away mindlessly or gave it to a charity shop that can price it up way too much for what the item is, (after all the charity shop should go both ways with the customer and the charity it is donating to right?).
Some of the bigger chains of charities should be questioned and monitored from outside independent bodies of where the charity money really goes to. I would advise when donating your unwanted items just to research their business ethics and where exactly they are spending the charity profits.
On a positive note, charity shops are a wonderful place to find old stuff that would look great in your home or can be reused or re-purposed, if of course you have the time and enthusiasm to go around them.
